Dam Seepage Mitigation

Client: Hydro Power Generation client on the West Coast.

Project Description: The Hydro Power Generation facility is a composite dam, featuring a concrete-faced earth fill and rock fill structure, which has experienced seepage at the downstream toe for a long time. The project scope involves constructing a coffer dam, dredging, installing a 60” gravity bypass pipe, drawing down the lake, grouting the low-level outlet (LLO), reconstructing the upstream toe with engineered fill, building a concrete plinth cutoff wall, and installing a carpi liner on the upstream dam face.

Total Project Cost: $250M-$300M (Approx)

Project Role: Accountable for overseeing and managing all facets of project controls, including:

  • Creating project estimates
  • Preparing and updating monthly project forecasts and schedules
  • Managing project actuals and updating estimates at completion
  • Providing explanations for forecast variances
  • Calculating earned value KPIs and preparing executive RYG reports
  • Managing vendors and vendor invoices, including review and approval
  • Overseeing budget management and funding authorization
  • Managing project risks, including updating the risk register and change logs
  • Tracking commitments and managing change orders

Project Outcome: Implemented and executed robust project controls processes and system to ensure confidence in the overall project cost and timeline. Our proactive approach enabled the client to identify and mitigate project costs and schedule risks leading to a successful project outcome
