Introduction: A major natural gas and electric utility company in the US, known for its extensive data resources, aimed to improve decision-making by extracting insights from various data sources. In collaboration with stakeholders, the data analytics team at Clarisight developed strategic plans to thoroughly analyze the data and provide actionable insights.

Problem/Challenge: The client faced significant challenges in managing vast, intricate datasets, achieving accurate forecasting, and keeping data up to date across multiple programs. These issues were hampering operational efficiency and decision-making. To address this, the client sought innovative data management technologies and advanced analytics strategies. The goal was to detect financial discrepancies, mitigate operational risks, and optimize data as a strategic asset for enhancing program safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Approach/Solutions: Clarisight team devised various data models to streamline and optimize databases, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across different programs. Using SQL queries, we extracted data to facilitate automated processes for budgeting forecasts and monthly updates at the program level. The team also developed and managed intuitive dashboards (using Power BI and Excel) and ad-hoc reports, providing program managers and executives with key metrics and actionable insights.

Results: Implementation of Automated reports and processes expedited decision-making for leadership and program managers. The new strategies improved operational efficiency by 10% by pinpointing discrepancies between actual and forecasted budgets.
